i spent part of the morning looking for new jobs and making an excel sheet to document all my auditions and thinking about the next five days of nonstop work i have ahead of me.

hunting

when i was a little girl
and then a medium girl
and then a big girl

my family held GIGANTIC Easter parties.

we're catholic.
all of us.
a gigantic, catholic family of epic proportions in texas.

and we're full of love.
we never limit the love.
friends, romans, countryman
they're all welcome here.

so we had these gigantic parties!
the saturday before easter
we invited EVERYONE we knew
and they invited EVERYONE they knew
and they all brought their kids and their grandparents
and twelve dozen plastic candy filled easter eggs
and we gathered all these eggs in a giant basket
and we gathered all the food everyone brought in my dad's shop
and we gathered all the people every single place we could possibly fit them.
inside, outside, front yard, back yard, shop, shed, trucks, trees
people were EVERYWHERE.

and everyone had fun.
everyone drank
(but not the kids, of course,)
everyone joked
everyone goofed
everyone was happy that lent was over or nearly over
and it was just utterly fantastic.

then.
the Big Event would happen.
all the kids gather inside
line up
by age
and clutch onto easter baskets.

a big kid
or a grown-up
acts as wrangler
and for ten-fifteen-twenty minutes maybe!
all the kids inside
squirm and push and scream and laugh and yell
anxiously waiting for that gigantic basket of eggs to be planted
to be hidden
to be spewed all over the backyard, the front yard, the trees, the people, the shop, the EVERYWHERE!
and then the hunt
BEGINS.

the babies are allowed out first.
they're three and under
some of them being carried by older cousins or parents
and the babies just kind of patter around the yard in circles
happy with one egg or colored piece of plastic
then come the four year olds
the five year olds
the sixes
hordes of children
tearing out of the house
sprinting around the slightly-more-than-an-acre yard we had
a mad dash for treats and treasures untold
the competition suddenly increases
seven year olds
eight year olds
nines
then tens
followed
quickly by 11, 12, 13, 14 maybe, even.
BIG KIDS
trampling, stomping, hurtling forward
plundering and stashing
candy, eggs, maybe money from eggs
not bothering to look at their loot
only troubling themselves to get as much of it as possible.

within minutes,
ten, at the most,
the hunt ends
the eggs scavenged, hunted, and horded.

we retreat.
we gather in groups to peruse the haul.
real eggs, hard boiled eggs,
were almost nearly thrown out immediately
or given to grown-ups
who may or may not appreciate the taste.
the real wins were anything with money
bite sized candy bars
temporary tattoos

and then the feasting begins.
and continues
and through the day and through the night
we all connect and rejoice and are grateful for the time to celebrate, to appreciate, to remember who we are and where we come from and why we join together to sing.

hoppy easter, everyone!

good sushi = more than i bargained for

i've not been reviewing things the way i should.

i mean
we saw HUNGER GAMES
and i didn't yet post of it's incredible-ness.

i saw a play
but actively decided not to review it

and then had sushi
last night
at AROMA
with lara
and it was so, so, super divine.

i was impressed!
first of all, like every sushi place in the entire world,
this one had half-price sushi
the difference, however
was that half-priced sushi only lasts
from 3-6 pm
and it's legitimately really fantastic
and legitimately half-priced.

meaning,
i bought two really expensive rolls
that ended up NOT BEING EXPENSIVE AT ALL.

and they were huge.
in fact, due entirely to my pioneer-ism
lara and i both stuffed the last rolls of our sushi into our guts
and then loved it and rolled around the mall
like little fat roly polies.
(i probably only felt this way because i just had the most accidental shopping spree of my life and there's nothing like multiple angled mirrors and poor lighting to make a lady feel not as hot as she thinks she is.)

actually
i can only speak for myself
but it was so good
and it was so tasty
and it was awesome.

but next time
as my dear friend lara so astutely proclaimed
WE ONLY ORDER ONE.

such truth.

i also ordered a pear martini
and bless my soul
it tasted like pears
and not like lots of alcohol.

it was soo tasty,
so yay! aroma!
we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the 80 degree weather and gabbed. so perfect.

lara, by the way, is super awesome and the best lady to hang out with and vent to in ohio.
she makes time for me
and it's spectacular
and we have lots and lots and lots of various girl times.
yay for friends!

OHIO KILLS ME

i'm at this conference.
right now.

it's lunch

i'm standing in front of a mexican lunch buffet
surrounded by people native to Ohio.

i'm standing in front  of a plate of enchiladas.
they look good.

in fact, the ohioans are commenting on it.
"i don't know what that is, but it looks delicious."

i chime in.
"they're enchiladas."

"oh, really? well, i'm not sure but they do look good."

they're ENCHILADAS.
they're obviously enchiladas.
I TOLD THEM THEY WERE ENCHILADAS.

and i'm dying surrounded by ohio.
"oooo those look delicious what are they?"

OHMYGOD.

old men with money can smell a pretty girl from a mile away

the gala last night was successful.

i went solo, aaron getting off from a long day very late
(and probably trying to avoid having to dress up, anyway,)
and it was probably better this way

because
let me tell you
old men with money can smell a pretty girl from a mile away

needless to say,
i made some exceptional theatre contacts.

i'm at a conference for my day job all day today
so blogging will be few and far between.

i don't want to get fired.
YOU KNOW.

but there's a teaser,
and more to follow
on the gala last night.

all easter bunnies should only be hollow. non-negotiable.

the best thing about easter is the chocolate.

wait...i mean, ummmmm......church?

the best thing about easter is church?

i'm sure my dad is having coniption fits right now hearing me say, "the best thing about easter is chocolate."

well, dad, let's pretend i'm eight years old and making blanket statements just for the heck of it.

sounds about right.

anyway, today i'm doing some easter bunny research
because,
in all honesty,
who DOESN'T like biting into big ol' hollow bunny ears at 8 am in the morning?

I DO.
and easter chocolate is the best kind of chocolate.
light
airy
easter-y
shaped like rabbits.

what isn't there to love?

i found some pretty rad easter bunnies online.

this guy made the list for being huge.
he's a pretty standard painted multi-chocolate easter bunny,
but he's big.
that's cool.

this little baby doll is just freaking adorable
and toffee?
okay, done.

when i thought a found a big bunny (above,)
i hadn't yet found this guy
who's makers recommend you break him open with a hammer.
see below for proof of godzilla rabbit.

lindt makes the list
and their rabbits are adorable and i like to bit their little heads off.
NOM NOM NOM

this little dude looks an awful lot like that a knock-off vosgues rabbie (shown above.)
but he's calico?
and still cute?
DONE.

cool, dude-ish things

i'm in love with a genius

you can't deny he's not innovative.

remember when aaron made gourmet mac n cheese
and then took it to

this is how he drove it.

what a wonder of contrasts this man is!

lazypantses

here's what happened this weekend.

i went to work. friday night.
it's so long ago i can hardly remember it
except it was fun
and i'm sure i made some cash.

aaron went to boys' night
and i got drunk-texted at 2 am.

"i'm smashed and not riding home. i looooove you love lvoe lovelvooev."

he also made mac n cheese and strapped it to the back of his motobike.

"it even made it down the stairs!" he squealed in delight.

i slept lazily and heavenly in a big bed by myself that night.
i'd had a margarita with a friend after work
and my lids were heavy.

2 am
and then shazaaam
suddenly it's 5 am
and i'm getting back up again.

my last table left after midnight the night before
and i was first-in this saturday morning.

i had four tables of early risers by 8:15.
and the day had already begun.

the restaurant was beautiful, saturday.
i'm growing more used to the pace of the place
and i'm settling into my bones as a very good server.

i had lovely tables
lovely tips
lots of interesting conversations
and i was tired enough to be hilarious.

that's what i love about the bistro!
i mean,
i'm so exhausted
but i'm still SO, SO HAPPY to be there.

i got home saturday afternoon to a frolicking aaron
attacking me at the door and jumping on me.
he tackled me and kissed me and told me he loved me
and it was awesome.

saturday night was the night of the lazypantses.
i mean, seriously.
the dishes needed to be done.
everything needed to be cleaned.
our house re-vamping needs to continue to be re-vamped.
and i crashed.
even now i can hardly remember what happened
except
that my feet throbbed
and i propped them up on pillows.

sunday was absolute bliss.
my sweet aaron treated me to brunch at THE COMET
one of the places he first took me when we first began dating.

i had taken this sunday off from work to spend it with aaron's parents while they visited in town.
they did, unfortunately, need to stay in north carolina for the weekend,
and i,
fortunately, had another unexpected day off, the first in two weeks, and the second in a month and a half.
so aaron and i had comet brunch
and i had a mimosa
and i just LOVED MY LIFE.
this "downtime" is just so much sweeter when it's contrasted with such great, hard work.

then
our friend matt
helped us move a lot of furniture out of our house
and into the apartment of a friend of mine from work.
she paid aaron 100 bucks for it
and i'm just happy we have SPACE now.

that took a couple of hours
and we collapsed on the porch in sweet happiness.
i think aaron played angry birds
and i rested my head against a post and
napped in the sunshine.

around 3:30 aaron began his workingextravaganza
and i puttered my way up the stairs into a bed and crashed again.

i woke up around 5:00 when aaron needed some hands moving a dresser from the neighbors two houses over into our house
and noticed how beautiful the lawn looked on our walk over.

we moved a dresser
i cleaned the kitchen
the bathroom
set up my office space
unpacked a lot of boxes
aaron moved dressers upstairs
cleaned the new dresser
moved his clothes in
i made up the guest room
washed and dried sheets
made beds
and moved some junk around.

we got a new kitchen table complete with four chairs from a friend
so that got set up and looks great

AND HEY!
that's the weekend!

we ate pizza and walked a bit
and read books
and slept.

tonight we're going to a pre-gala party, and i'm wearing a super pretty dress.
pics to follow, i'm sure!
