Night 9: Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy
there's a lot to say for Woody Allen, as i obviously keep saying it, over and over and over and over and over
which is....that he has an impressive body of work
take for example, Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy, which I hadn't even heard about until I stumbled across it on Netflix.
there's not much to say about it except that it's good. it's very good. it's all "midsummer night's dream," with an emphasis on the sexual mishaps. :)
three couples.
A + B have not made love in a year.
C + D are brand new acquaintances.
E + F are celebrating an engagement.
In reality,
A + D made love one year ago.
B + F have unresolved sexual history.
and C + E are polar opposites, infinitely attracted to each other.
this night, tonight, a beautiful summer's night out in the country (also--this is a period piece so lots of layers, buttons, suspenders and hats,) all players involved are pressed onward to resolving their urges within their midst.
without saying too much, it's adorable. a period piece, but not necessarily period mannerisms (Woody Allen,) a fine array of endearing characters and performances, and a handful of bittersweet moments.
woody allen, purveyor of fine bittersweet moments
