it's a DIY kind of day

i am a busy lady lately.
i work
i yoga
i box
i see a boy
i see my friends

i have yet to re-discover my lazy time.
lazy time, in which i do all kinds of cool things.

look for a job
make some crafts
blog all the time

but it's a DIY kind of day.
and if i was home
if i was DIYing,
i'd do a couple of things.

for example.
today
i would make a record sleeve garland
which i found eight thousand years ago on oh happy day (she's a paid blogger who writes for multiple sites. ALSO. she lives in france, super cool. i could live in france.)

garlands are by far and large my favorite gifts to give people.
once upon a time, i made a floral one for mother's day.
i also made a happy "carpe diem" one for a friend just moved to the usa.
and recently, i made a fairly chintzy "welcome home" banner for dan and elizabeth that i then took photos of with my iphone and uploaded. no doubt the quality on these could be substantially better. but hey! i give myself a break! i made it super quick and i was in the middle of watching "The Graduate" and trying not to get glitter all over their coffee table.

oh snap. i'm in the mood to make some garlands.

i also have a thing for sending things in the mail.
garlands prove EXCELLENT gifts to receive in le poste.
instant party in a box.

shoot i'm super obsessed with garlands again. i'm gonna have to do some more research on those. ABSOLUTELY.

ANYWAY.
we were originally discussing what i would do on my imaginary DIY day at home, where it's gray and rainy outside and hopefully i'm wearing striped socks (which i have an obsession with right now, too, and you'll receive a post on in a few days. ohmygod someone please give me striped socks, i love them so much.)
ANYWAY.

i would also make cinnamon rolls.
two years ago
i decided i wanted a specialty in baking
and that that specialty would be cinnamon rolls.

good choice on my part
because everyone freaking loves cinnamon rolls
and i feel like an excellent person when i make them.

ALSO. cinnamon rolls completely feed into my obsession with making bread
(which, of course, has its own post coming in the days ahead. oh bread bread bread bread bread you are too awesome.)

and finally, maybe finally,
i'd digitally letterpress (oxymoron?) inspirational sayings
onto 8.5 x 11" paper
to take to kinkos
and blow up into giant letters to mail to my sisters.

things like
TODAY IS YOUR DAY
or
LIVE LIVE LIVE LIVE LIVE
or
GOOD MORNING, SUNSHINE!

ya know, incredibly positive, upbeat things that all people enjoy having screamed at them.
YOU! YOU THERE! DO SOMETHING AWESOME WITH YOUR LIFE TODAY!
because the message can't possibly be oppressive if the intention is well. :P
