Wedding Style: Wilmington Edition

Months ago we got an invite in the mail.
"Mr. Aaron Clements
and
Miss Allyson West"

it said.
Please come to our wedding.
in Wilmington, North Carolina
and please let us know if you'd like to eat chicken or steak.

Steak, we said,
and then the vacation planning began.

Okay, so were not rich folk, to say the least.
I've spent the last six months of my life working at least three times a week 9 am to 2 am
and on top of all that
have a little over 2k saved of it.
(more or less depending on how many parking tickets I receive.)

so i was eager
and very alert
to grab a vacation when it presented itself

wilmington, north carolina
i googled
and found out very quickly that it's a historic tourist town
built right on a river
and about twenty minutes
TO A BEACH

perfect!
i exclaimed in my mind
and i went nuts for it.

vacation = clothes that make me feel the best ever.
in my daily life,
i used to not have the opportunity to dress well and feel GREAT about myself
(and now, obviously, i do)
but BEFORE NOW
i just dreamed and dreamed and dreamed of looking like a vision at this wedding.

IN FACT
remember
and then the trials of trying on more and more dresses looking for one for a good fit
remember me talking to ESB about cream and blush and nude and off-white (which thank god i did not choose because all the bridesmaids were in pink)
and then remember me looking more and more for dresses?

Well,
it turns out,
i got fed up.

i was spending over 100 bucks a pop on ordering and shipping and trying on all these dresses
and NONE OF THEM WERE WORKING OUT.

so i went all
"I'M FED UP!"
and i opened up modcloth
and searched in "blue dress"
and saw this baby, called, "Without Complications"
and i thought, PERFECT I DON'T NEED COMPLICATIONS RIGHT NOW
and i said eff it all to my legs and their weird distrust of asymmetrical hems
and i said hell yes to the fact that i already had a pair of blue shoes looking for a reason to wear for a whole evening
and i said hell yes to the under 100 price point and i ordered the darn thing.

it came in the mail right away
and then sat on my lime green couch for three days
as i worked like an insane woman at work(s)
before packing up and swiftly cruising away one morning for vacay.

obviously
it ended up being perfect.
i paired it with the ever most delightful blue shoes
some blue earrings from target
(bc honestly target is stepping up their earring-game)
and a blue leather belt.
the light blue purse is thrifted, on location, in wilmington, north carolina. huzzah!

aaron has his own distinct sense of style, i might add.
he told me i was going to die when i saw him in a suit
and i mildly believed him
but then he really put the baby on, and i did, a little bit, because it was so well suited, if you will. :P

he then paired it with a duck embroidered tie, which i also loved

and a pair of DC shoes (and white socks) that he picked up because he forgot his dress shoes (and obviously his dress socks as well.) it was the first time in my life i've ever seen white socks get mildly pulled off from his stark white shirt. HOWEVER. we will not be doing this again, and i know now to add  "check aaron's shoes and socks" to my list of things to do before leaving on vacation. :)
